Spring (Cleaning) Fever

Photo of Sabrina & a chicken by Fat Montana

Okay, that’s not me or my chicken, but it popped up in my tumblr faves when I was looking for home decorating photos and I couldn’t resist posting it. It *is* a fantastic room.

This is my house:

My living room.

My kitchen.

This house is a century home & our furniture has a sort of thrifted 60s/hipster handmade/nouveau country thing going on, at least right now. In anticipation of a new summer roommate I’ve been doing a super deep clean with the aim of updating the decor just slightly. We’ve never painted in this house but after two years, I think it’s time.

Here are a few ideas:

My desk area is set up in the corner of our living room & I love this angular take on an accent wall. I’m also super into those hot pink accents.

Sfgirlbybay posted photos that Bonnie Tsang took in Victoria’s home this week. The whole set is awesome (duh) but I especially love the contemporary feeling that the black interior gives this hutch. We have some built-in shelving in the living room that might get a similar treatment…

I’ve been feeling like doing a full-on bedroom makeover basically since we moved into our house. It doesn’t get a lot of light & the paint in there is seriously dingy. After seeing this photo, I’m thinking chartreuse ceiling and light gray walls. Yes?

Our bedroom has an archway that separates the closet under the stairs from the rest of the room. I’d love to make a colourful silk-scarf assemblage curtain for it, as seen in Emily Chalmers’ home, blogged at sfgirlbybay (again! I know!).

Okay I’m gonna get back to my spring cleaning! The sooner I tidy up, the sooner I can paint!
