GOOD THINGS: NAH-TIONALISM

My friend Kate took this photo of my BFFs Meagh and Claire for Toronto Pride.  <3

It’s Canada Day!

This means that I have three days off in a row. I never get a long weekend! That’s nice, right?

Whenever people talk about Canada being the “best” country in the world I always wonder what they are selling. I wish I were celebrating the Quebecois version of this holiday where everybody takes the day off to move houses & then you can spend a day rummaging around the curbs & thrift stores for amazing treasure.

Still, good things:

  • It’s July which means that my best pal & great love is home THIS MONTH! On the very last day of THIS MONTH! Ask me about it and watch me grin. We are having a tremendous run – possibly the most successful time apart ever – but I’ll be happy when it is over. I can’t wait to put my face up close to his face!
  • Last night Bridget & I got all fancied up & paid a visit to Le Petit Bar. It opened months ago  & I had been putting off visiting because I knew that suddenly everything else would pale in comparison. All candlelight & boozy fruit & dessert cheese & everything drizzled in honey & seasoned with fresh basil. Magic! Our pals Katie & Jamie both work there & we were spoiled rotten. I’m thinking that our post-knitting group drinks might need to relocate.
  • Listening to & loving the new Fiona Apple album which has also prompted me to revisit The Weather Station’s “All of it was mine.“ So special when you can tell that there is a brilliant mind behind a beautiful song (or two):
  • Current preferred iced coffee method: Add a couple of tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk to a glass. Pour an extra-long shot of espresso over top. Stir. Fill glass with ice.
  • Digging into a big project & remembering that feeling challenged can feel right. Being able to manage my anxiety (for the moment) is such a gift & it is letting me do the things I want to do. Overwhelmingly thankful.

  • This weekend’s to-do list includes: family hangouts, getting important things done, buying tasty food, hanging out with the cutest dog, making stuff, and scientifically testing pear ciders for deliciousness. I’m ready.
